Privacy Policy
This explains what we do with your personal information when you book an Island Chemistry event or register your interest in a future one.
1.Who We Are
Island Chemistry runs singles and speed-dating events on the Isle of Wight, and is operated by The Wedding Collective.
We are the data controller for the personal information described in this policy. If you have any question about how we handle your details, please contact us and we will answer it.
2.What We Collect
When you request a ticket, we collect your full name, age, email address, mobile number, the booking category you choose, a recent photo of yourself, and your confirmation that you are single and aged 25 or over.
Your photo is never displayed publicly, never shown to other guests, and is not used for any purpose other than managing attendance. It is stored privately and can only be seen by the person running the event.
When you register your interest in a future event, we collect your name, email address, age range and the sort of event you are interested in.
On the night, you complete a scorecard using participant numbers only. Scorecards do not carry names or contact details.
We do not collect or store your card details. If we offer you a place, payment is handled by Stripe and your card information goes directly to them.
3.Why We Use It
To consider your ticket request, offer you a place if one is suitable, and contact you about the event. Your photo and age are used only to check that requests fit the advertised age range and to keep the numbers balanced between groups.
To balance the numbers attending each event, which is what makes the evening work.
To tell you about future Island Chemistry events, where you have registered your interest or asked us to. You can ask us to stop at any time.
To meet our legal and accounting obligations, and to deal with any dispute.
4.Scorecards & Matches
Your scorecard is seen only by us. It is used solely to identify mutual matches at the end of the evening, and it is securely destroyed afterwards.
We tell you about mutual matches privately. We never tell anyone that you did not select them.
We never pass your contact details to another guest. If you and another guest match, it is entirely up to the two of you whether you exchange details yourselves.
5.Who We Share It With
Stripe, our payment provider, who process your payment and hold the payment record. Nothing is shared with Stripe unless and until you are offered a place and choose to pay.
Our email provider, which sends your booking confirmation.
Our website and database hosting providers, which store booking records securely on our behalf.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with other guests or with anyone for marketing purposes.
6.How Long We Keep It
Booking records are kept for up to seven years, because payment records are needed for accounting and tax purposes.
Scorecards are destroyed shortly after each event.
Photos are deleted shortly after the event they were submitted for. If we are unable to offer you a place, your photo is deleted as soon as that decision is made.
If you have registered your interest in future events, we keep those details until you ask us to remove them, or until they are clearly no longer of use.
7.Your Rights
You have the right to ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected if it is wrong, and to ask us to delete it where we are able to.
You can ask us to stop sending you information about future events at any time, and we will act on that straight away.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
8.Keeping It Safe
Booking details are held in an access-controlled database that cannot be read from the public website.
Only the people who need booking information in order to run an event have access to it.
